ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A 49-year-old woman reported missing Thursday afternoon was found on Green Key Island by a SeaTow crew near Homosassa, Florida, Friday, coast guard officials said.
The woman was found on a small uninhabited island more than a mile and a half from her last known position by the commercial salvage crew, which was assisting the Coast Guard in the search for the women who had been reportedly snorkeling for scallops with her husband, coast guard officials said.
A coast guard station Yankeetown, Florida, was notified by 911 dispatch Thursday that a man reported his wife missing after a 14-foot john boat drifted away while the couple snorkeled. The man stated he swam a half-mile to retrieve the boat, then returned to the original location and was unable to locate his wife.
Officials say the woman was taken to a hospital in good condition.
