TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA.com) - Bollywood and Hollywood collided on Tampa’s green carpet outside of Raymond James Stadium Saturday night.
“This is like an Indian wedding gone exploding onto the streets of Tampa,” said Aasif Mandvi, a a comedian and correspondent on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart."
“I understand they know how to put on a show, so I’m looking forward to what they’re up to tonight,” actor Kevin Spacey said on the green carpet before the awards show.
John Travolta also was a hit on the green carpet.
“The Indian energy in filmmaking, in Hollywood there’s an infusion that we need,” Travolta said.
The green carpet festivities were set to begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, but big name stars didn’t start showing up until 7 p.m. The late arrivals gave Mandvi plenty of material.
“You know how you know Indian people time? When the person you came with is still not there, you’re in the audience and they’re still not there, that’s Indian people time,” Mandvi said jokingly.
Miss America Nina Davuluri also walked the green carpet.
“I never thought I would be here as Miss America representing the Indian American community," Davuluri. "I can’t believe it’s all happened, so I’m taking it all in and looking forward to a great show.”
