After 22 years behind the 'Tonight Show' desk, Jay Leno said goodbye to his views and his staff who became his family. Putting aside the Conan debacle, it really seems like Jay Leno is a good guy who cares about his staff. So much so that he has ensured that his staff will be paid in full through September! It's pretty historic to see the 'Tonight Show' torch being passed, since there have only been 4 hosts in 'Tonight Show' history.
Nevertheless, it has been an emotional changing of the guard with guests over the last couple months bidding adieu to Leno. I know for myself, I grew up on Jay. Friday nights my mom would let me stay up late to watch his show, even though most of the time I would fall asleep on the couch before the monologue was over. I was lucky enough to go to a live taping of the 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno' 10 years ago. I was amazed how smooth everything was; guess that's how it is when you have been doing the show for that long. I was also taken aback by how nice and genuine jay was to his audience. It wasn't something you would just see when the cameras were rolling, you would see it when the red light was off and he was taking an interest in who was sitting in the audience. .
Change is good. I have also been to a live taping of Jimmy Fallon's show and have to say I couldn't think of a better replacement. .
So, here is to a legend Mr. Leno. Thanks for the memories. .
