Coldplay‘s frontman Chris Martin phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Thursday to discuss a hypothetical duet with Ariana Grande, new music, and his relationship with Gwyneth Paltrow, which is going through a “conscious uncoupling.”
At the top of the interview, the iHeartRadio Music Festival performer expressed his enthusiasm for the two-day event and name-dropped Ariana, which prompted Ryan to ask Chris if he would collaborate with the starlet.
“I would man, but she can sing so much better than me. I don’t want to be humiliated in that fashion,” says the Ghost Stories artist. “I was in the car yesterday and ‘Problem‘ was on, I was like, ‘I just can’t do that.’”
Although a collaboration with the “Break Free” singer is still up in the air, the 37-year-old gave Ryan some details on Coldplay’s next project, revealing, “We are starting [to] work on some other songs, and you know, that kind of thing.”
After getting the update on Chris’ musical career, Ryan switched gears and asked the “Paradise” singer how he and the Iron Man actress — who were spotted at a midnight movie screening in East Hampton — still remain friends despite their imminent divorce.
“I’m not the best interviewee on this kind of thing, but we’re friends and proud parents,” discloses Chris, who fathered Apple, 10, and Moses, 6, with Gwyneth. “There’s lots of love, and that’s it.”
Coldplay — alongside Taylor Swift, Ariana, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, and many more — will take the stage at the sold-out iHeartRadio Music Festival on September 19 and 20.
Ghost Stories — which debuted at No. 1 with over 383,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan — is available for purchase on iTunes now.
