Florida Parimutuels Closer To Decoupling

Harness racing at Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park could soon be just a memory.

Florida's Senate Committee on Regulated Industries has voted in favor of allowing the state's parimutuel facilities to decouple.

The move would allow them to run card games without having to run quarter horse or harness races or jai alai matches.

Opponents say thousands of jobs could be lost.

The Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to take up the bill on Thursday.
