Iguana Causes Power Outage In Lake Worth Beach

An iguana is being blamed for a power outage in Palm Beach County.

Two days after storms knocked power out to thousands across the state, nearly 3,000 customers of Lake Worth Beach utilities lost electricity Tuesday morning after a large invasive iguana climbed onto a breaker near 15th Avenue South and connected parts that should not be connected. It happened just before 11 a.m.

City spokesman Ben Kerr says the system is set up to automatically shut down the affected line of power when something like that occurs, to prevent fire.

Most of the power has been restored as workers continue to get the rest of the customers back online.
