Senate Version Of Transgender Sports Ban Bill Postponed As House Debates It

As the full Florida House takes up the "Fairness in Women's Sports Act" on Tuesday, the Senate version of the bill that would essentially ban transgender girls from competing in high school and collegiate sports has been postponed in committee.

A Senate spokeswoman says that the postponement in the Rules Committee is for "planning purposes," but the announcement came hours after the NCAA warned that it may pull future championship events.

Republican State Rep. Kaylee Tuck says her bill is about biology.

"Men generally have denser, stronger bones, tendons and ligaments, larger hearts (and) greater lung capacity."

But Democrat Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith says it's not a problem for the Florida High School Athletic Association.

"They have been allowing for transgender students to openly participate in team sports in Florida since 2013 and we've never received a single complaint or heard of any issues."

There are distinct differences between Tuck's bill and the one in the Senate.
