BROWARD COUNTY -- A driver in far western Broward County is alive and well after his car was struck by lightning on Alligator Alley, which is more than can be said for his car.

The Florida Highway Patrol says troopers got a call that a 48-year-old man's Nissan Rogue broke down at mile marker 30.5 around 11 Monday mroning.

The strike, which occurred during a heavy rainstorm, damaged the roof antenna and electrical system, disabling the car. It also left a gash on the I-75 pavement, seven feet long and four inches away.

A tow truck took the car away for repairs and FDOT crews were told about the pavement damage.
