New billboard campaign in Central Florida warns of the dangers of fentanyl

A new awareness campaign launched Tuesday in Central Florida focuses on the spike in overdose deaths as the COVID pandemic continues. Dr. Kendall Cortelyou with Project Opiod says that billboards that read, 'Everyone is Dying' and '6 Feet Apart Shouldn't Mean 6 Feet Under' are designed to drive home the dangers of the synthetic opiod fentanyl.

"Upwards of 70-80-percent of the people that are dying from overdose have fentanyl in their system," Dr. Cortelyou says, "so that's why this campaign is so important, to raise awareness for fentanyl especially in this time of reduced services."

Another "The Everyone Campaign" billboard read, 'What You Don't Know Will Kill You.' Project Opiod founder Andrae Bailey says what you should know is that narcan can save your life if you're in the midst of an overdose.

"Narcan is saving lives everywhere, in Seminole County, Orange County, Osceola County and beyond. On the website, people are going to be able to get narcan sent directly to them."

The website is ProjectOpiod.org.
