Nick Jonas is opening up about the "frightening" first few months of his daughter's life.
The Sunday Best singer shared some rare insight into the "intense" birth of his and wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas' daughter Malti Marie, now 4, for the first time in Wednesday's (February 4) episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. Malti was born via surrogate three months early in January 2022 and spent more than 100 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before finally being cleared to go home with her parents, per Page Six.
"She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I've not really talked about ever," he said, adding, "She came out [and] she was 1 pound, 11 ounces and purple basically. These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment."
The Jonas Brothers musician explained that he and Chopra had to "do 12-hour shifts at the hospital" for more than three months as Malti got the care she needed in the NICU, which included six blood transfusions.
"I could still sort of like, smell it, you know, there's always visceral things," he said. "It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day and to see sort of other families going through similar situations. But she fought every day for three and a half months and slowly started to gain some weight."
Chopra and Jonas, who tied the knot in 2018, were finally able to bring their baby girl home after more than 100 days and have been enjoying life with their toddler ever since.
"And I feel like she knows," he said. "How she entered the world and what that first chapter of her life was like. And so every day is a gift and you can actually feel it on her in the way that she behaves and how exciting everything is."
