Palm Beach County Library System Holds Its Own "Con" For 50th Anniversary

You may have heard of "Comic Con", but what about "DeweyCon," named after the mascot of the Palm Beach County Library System.

"Dewey is an owl that loves to go to all of our events and have fun with kids and take pictures and dance around."

John Campbell, with the library system says this weekend's event will be the first of what he hopes will be an annual thing, featuring contests, interactive displays, food trucks. There's a more community-type focus on this Convention than those bigger ones.

"We're more focused on the books and the comics and the "Manga" and the anime."

DeweyCon is being held Saturday and Sunday at the main library on Summit Boulevard, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Palm Beach County Library System.

Organizers say, unlike those bigger events, this is one is free.

It's happening Saturday Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday Aug. 18, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
