Another Florida city is near a ban on plastic straws.

City Commissioners in Stuart Monday approved on first reading an ordinance that would regulate the use of plastics on city-owned property.

They say there are attainable alternatives to single-use plastic straws, which pose a hazard to the environment, including sealife.

Commissioners have not announced the date of the second reading.
