Florida Education Standards Changing

The State of Florida is getting ready to change its education standards, again.

The state wants to replace Common Core with a new system called BEST, Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking.

Unveiling the plans in Naples on Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis said parents everywhere complained to him about Common Core and the convoluted math that went with it. DeSantis says the new education standards will include a more traditional way of teaching math and he promises there will be less student testing too.

The governor says the new BEST standards will also incorporate more civics education into an academic year.

DeSantis says the BEST standards and his plan to increase starting pay for teachers are two major initiatives he's now trying to push through the Florida legislature.

More details about BEST will be rolled out next week.
