Some U.S. Citizenship and Immig. Services Offices Reopening Today

For the first time since mid-March, some U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services field offices are open for in-person services including Miami and Hialeah's.

Out of the state's nine CIS field offices, only Miami and Hialeah's are resuming non-emergency, face-to-face services, but in order to abide by social distancing and other CDC guidelines, the number of appointments and interviews are reduced.

Immigration attorney Tammy Fox-Isicoff says traditionally in election years citizenship applications are moved through the system faster in order to register more voters, but the coronavirus will slow the process.

She believes immigration court cases will resume next month.

She stresses even though the coronavirus has spread through ICE detention facilities, hearings and deportations have never stopped.
