Jay-Z did an interview at Colombia University where he cleared up some rumors about why he and Beyonce sat for the National Anthem as Demi Lovato sang. Most of the reports were that they were doing in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, but now we're finding out that it was not the case at all.
"What happened was, we got there, we were sitting, and now the show’s about to start. My wife was with me and so she says to me, ‘I know this feeling right here.’ Like, she’s super-nervous because she’s performed at Super Bowls before. I haven’t." said JAY-Z.
“...we get there and we immediately jump into artist mode … now I’m really just looking at the show. Did the mic start? Was it too low to start? … I had to explain to them [that] as an artist, if you don’t feel the music, you can’t really reach that level.”
Jay-Z said he didn't even realize how bad it looked until someone called him to tell him what the media was saying.
“Blue [Ivy] was right next to us, we wouldn’t do that to Blue and put her in that position," said JAY-Z.
Just seems to me like they weren't protesting anyway because they've been so vocal about their support for causes before so why would they try to hide this one if they were trying to make a point, ya know?
