Palm Beach County Judge Denies Request To Close Schools

A judge has denied a request by several Palm Beach County teachers to close brick-and-mortar schools.

The group was suing the school district, hoping to get an emergency injunction to temporarily stop in-person classes, which just began last week.

The teachers claim they were denied remote-work assignments despite being at risk to severe complications from COVID-19 due to their age and health.

Circuit Judge Glenn Kelley ruled that elected officials, not the court system, must determine "how and when businesses and government institutions will reopen and function."

The judge did, however, acknowledge that the employees' concerns were "real, genuine and legitimate."
