Sanford firefighter won't go to jail for role in Capitol riot

A Sanford firefighter who pleaded guilty for his involvement in the riot at the U.S. Capitol has avoided jail time. On unpaid leave since his arrest, Andrew Williams has been sentenced to two years probation and 60 hours of community service. Williams was also ordered to pay $500 restitution. Williams could have faced up to 6 months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of parading, demonstrating or picking inside a Capitol building which is a misdemeanor. His attorney had asked for one year of probation.

Williams admitted to entering the Capitol building and going to the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Williams has been with the Sanford Fire Department since 2016.
