Rep. Charlie Crist, a candidate for governor, issued the following statement about Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill, dubbed by critics "Don't Say Gay"

“Governor DeSantis loves to boast that he’s made Florida the ‘freest state in America,’ yet today he will sign a heinous, hateful piece of legislation that silences teachers in their own classrooms and effectively harms millions of LGBTQ+ students, with nowhere else to turn for help,” said Charlie Crist. “Under this Governor, Florida is not free if you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community. But when we win this election in November, we will make Florida truly free again. In the Sunshine State, we proudly say ‘gay,' and we support the LGBTQ+ community at every step of the way.”

Statement from the Disney Corp.

"Florida's HB 1557, also known as the "Don't Say Gay" bill, should never have been passed and should never have been signed into law. Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country."
