LISTEN: TECO's Manatee Center Sets New Record

APOLLO BEACH -- This winter's cold fronts have driven manatees to warm water spots, including the one next to the Big Bend power plant on Tampa Bay.

Tampa Electric Company says more than 11-hundred seacows huddled in the canal at its Manatee Viewing Center December 29th.

That breaks the previous record of 850 manatees set last winter. TECO says the number of manatees has stayed over one thousand this season.

Other manatee hotspots have also seen high numbers of visitors. Blue Spring State Park in DeLand has also been setting new records with more than nine hundred manatees huddling to escape the chill.
