(Miami, FL) -- A tropical wave gaining steam in the central Caribbean Sea is producing an area of disorganized thunderstorms that could develop into a named storm later this week.

National Weather Service Miami meteorologist Luke Culver says the system will likely develop into "Sara," fueled by the warm water in the Caribbean. But no one knows where she's headed.

"Once the system becomes a named storm and enters into the Gulf," Culver says "It could head northwest, north or northeast depending on wind shear and steering currents."

Culver says South Florida will not feel the effects of a potential storm until the middle of next week.

If she forms, Sara and would follow on the heels of Hurricane Rafael, which hit Cuba last week.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season officially ends on November 30th.
