Yankees Take Four-Game Series From The Rays

The New York Yankees (14-8) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (9-13) 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. With the loss, the Rays finished their season-long 13-game homestand with a 5-8 record, and have been shut out for the third time in a week.

Trent Grisham led off the game with a homer for New York to take an early 1-0 lead. The Yankees got single runs in the third, sixth and ninth to provide some separation.

Ryan Pepiot (1-3, 4.82) got the start and allowed three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work - he struck out seven and walked one. Max Fried (4-0, 1.42) kept the Rays offense off-balance all night, allowing just two hits in seven and two-thirds innings of work.

The Rays are now off on Monday before going out west for a six-game, two-city road trip. That begins on Tuesday night when they begin a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 9:40 PM - pregame coverage begins at 9:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
