Rays Open Series With Win Over Guardians

The Tampa Bay Rays (71-69) defeated the Cleveland Guardians (69-70) 4-2 on Thursday night. With the win, the Rays have now won their last seven consecutive games.

Christopher Morel drove in a run for the Rays on a single in the first to make it 1-0. In the fourth inning Carson Williams drove in two with a two-run single. Then in the sixth inning, Josh Lowe reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Christopher Morel to score to make it 4-0.

Ryan Pepiot (11-10, 3.59) got the win after pitching five shutout innings in which he did not allow a hit wihle striking out six and walking two. The Guardians got their first hit off the Rays in the sixth inning when Jose Ramirez singled off Bryan Baker. Cleveland's only two runs of the game came in the ninth inning off of Pete Fairbanks.

The Rays will now try to make it eight in a row when they host the Guardians in the second game of a four-game series on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
