You may think actors are used to seeing their faces on the big screen, but there are some β like Keira Knightley β that prefer to look away.
Knightley has starred in her fair share of iconic films, from breathtaking period pieces like Atonement and Anna Karenina to beloved classics like Pride & Prejudice and Love Actually; however, there is one movie that she has never seen, per People. In a recent radio interview, the 40-year-old actress explained how she tends to avoid rewatching movies she has appeared in because "it's not a particularly lovely experience watching your own face back at you."
"It's funny because my relationship with a piece of work is obviously very different from people viewing it," she said. "What's wonderful about those films is they have become people's favorites and they watch them again and again and again and again."
When asked if she has ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean, the beloved fantasy franchise in which she stars as Elizabeth Swann across multiple movies, she revealed that she has never watched the third installment, 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
"I saw the second one at the premiere, but I have never seen the third one," she said, joking that there was "too much face" for her to watch her performance. "Really close up, large face. It's just, nobody needs to see that."
And that wasn't her only shocking admission. When it comes to Love Actually, the popular 2003 holiday film she starred in when she was 18 years old, Knightley admitted she has only watched it once when she saw it at the premiere.
Knightley isn't alone in her opinion of watching one's own work on screen.
"Quite a lot of people I know never watch their own [projects] and so I am more on that side than anything," she said. "So actually, I do forget them and it's quite funny now when people come up to me and talk about films they know really, very well and I am very definitely there and I am very definitely in them."
