The Tampa Bay Rays (24-12) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (16-21) 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field to sweep their divisional rival. With the win, the Rays have now won their last six games in a row, completing a perfect 6-0 homestand at Tropicana Field.
Shane McClanahan (4-2, 2.60) pitched five and two-third shutout innings in which he allowed two hits while striking out four and walking one. A bullpen combination of Kevin Kelly, Garrett Cleavinger, Bryan Baker, Ian Seymour combined to complete the shutout. Seymour worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
The Rays got two runs in the fourth inning thanks to a RBI double from Jonny DeLuca and a RBI single from Chandler Simpson. They added some insurance in the eighth inning when Cedric Mullins scored on a throwing error by Blue Jays second baseman Ernie Clement that made it 3-0 Tampa Bay.
The Rays look to stay hot when they begin a road trip with a four-game series in Boston that begins on Thursday night. Tampa Bay will try to make it seven in a row when they play the Red Sox in game one of the four game series on Thursday.
