Miami, FL - JetBlue Airways is officially leaving Miami International Airport, with its final departure scheduled for September 3rd.

The airline’s decision comes amid growing financial pressure and weaker travel demand across the United States, prompting major carriers to cut underperforming routes.

JetBlue confirmed that it will no longer operate its only Miami route, which connects to Boston Logan Airport.

A spokesperson for the airline told multiple outlets, including CNBC and the Associated Press, that the route was not meeting profitability targets and that aircraft will be reassigned to stronger markets.

Passengers booked after the shutdown date will be offered either a full refund or a chance to fly out of Fort Lauderdale Airport, where JetBlue maintains a larger presence.

This move is part of a larger cost reduction effort within the airline, as CEO Joanna Geraghty explained in an internal memo reviewed by CNBC.

Geraghty told employees that a full recovery is unlikely this year and the airline is still depending on borrowed money to cover operations.

The travel industry overall is feeling the pinch.

According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, airfare prices dropped more than seven percent in May compared to last year.

Analysts have reported that several airlines are trimming routes due to declining domestic bookings and economic uncertainty.

JetBlue, along with other carriers, recently withdrew its 2025 financial forecasts, citing the unpredictable market.
