Woman Found Lifeless in Donation Bin Near Broward Mall

Broward County, FL - Police in Plantation are investigating an early morning death discovered inside a roadside clothing donation container.

According to reports, officers were called at about six forty five in the morning after a teacher from the Childrens Learning Center on Broward Boulevard reported a person trapped inside the large pink receptacle placed a short walk from Broward Mall.

News outlets cited detectives who said the woman appeared to be middle aged and experiencing homelessness.

CBS News Miami reported investigators believe she allegedly climbed into the bin to retrieve clothing and became wedged in the chute, leading to fatal asphyxiation.

Emergency crews confirmed the woman was already dead when they arrived.

The Sun Sentinel noted the box sits near the corner of Broward Boulevard and Northwest Eighty Fourth Avenue, an area frequented by pedestrians seeking donations.

Plantation Police stressed that while foul play is not suspected the case remains open pending autopsy results from the Broward Medical Examiner.

Her identity is being withheld until relatives are notified.

Reports indicated officers are studying nearby security video to determine exactly when and how the woman entered the bin and that the receptacle was hauled away on a flatbed truck for further inspection.

A parent arriving at the daycare told reporters she first thought a pipe had burst before learning a body had been found.

Another resident said the opening of the box is so small she could not imagine anyone fitting through it.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Plantation Police or Broward Crime Stoppers.
