Hernando County, FL - A Hernando County man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving at an extremely high speed in a Toyota Prius, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Michael Montoya, 28, was reportedly seen overtaking an unmarked deputy vehicle on the Suncoast Parkway while traveling 106 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The deputy stopped Montoya shortly after the incident, and his Prius was towed from the scene.

The sheriff’s office classified the stop as a “super speeder” violation under Florida law.

Drivers who exceed 100 mph or drive 30 mph over the posted speed limit can face additional fines and penalties.

Montoya was booked into the Hernando County Jail and faces charges related to reckless driving and excessive speeding.

According to the sheriff’s office, traffic enforcement deputies regularly monitor major roadways to prevent dangerous driving behaviors and maintain public safety.

High-speed incidents like this are considered a serious threat to other motorists.

The Toyota Prius, known primarily for fuel efficiency rather than high performance, was noted by deputies as the vehicle involved in the stop.

Authorities stress that exceeding posted speed limits can result in severe consequences, including fines, license suspension, and potential criminal charges.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to report reckless driving and to follow traffic laws to ensure safety on all roadways.

This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to deter dangerous driving and enforce traffic regulations throughout the county.
