Daytona Beach, FL - A 38-year-old Daytona Beach woman was found dead in her home on Friday after what authorities believe was a fatal dog attack.

The Daytona Beach Police Department responded around 7 p.m. after the victim’s boyfriend, who had been unable to reach her by phone, went to her residence on Spruce Street and found her unresponsive on the floor.

He immediately called emergency services.

Officers arriving at the scene found Monica Emerson with severe injuries consistent with an animal attack.

Four dogs were running freely inside the home, including a large mixed-breed male and three of his adult offspring.

Investigators have not confirmed the breed beyond this description and have not disclosed whether the dogs belonged to Emerson.

Authorities stated that there was no evidence of foul play or human involvement.

Police believe that Emerson may have suffered a medical emergency that caused her to lose consciousness, leaving her vulnerable to the dogs, which allegedly attacked her.

Animal control officials collected the dogs and transported them to Volusia County Animal Services, where they will be held for 10 days and then euthanized, as required under state regulations.

The investigation into Emerson’s death remains active.

Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the exact sequence of events that led to her fatal injuries.

No arrests have been made, and officials have not released details about the cause of the medical episode that may have contributed to her death.
