If you've ever wanted to live in a picturesque Italian village, you're going to love this. The town of Presicce has seen many of its residents move out of town over the past several years for a variety of reasons. In many cases, their houses have been left vacant and abandoned. Now, the local government is trying to repopulate the town and pump up the local economy by offering people $30,000 to come live there -- in one of these vacated houses. Town officials will start taking applications in the coming weeks!
Prescicce was once known for its olive oil production. Many of the homes have access to underground tunnels that were once used to transport the olive oil...there's an old fortress, Medieval ruins, historic chapels, and even caves that were once used as hiding places from pirates!
There's a 1 Euro program that allows buyers to purchase abandoned homes for as little as one euro, as long as you agree to renovate the homes. They'll even give you money for the renovation!
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go sell all my stuff and tell my husband we're moving to Italy. It was nice knowing y'all.
